The skill level of Division IIb has been tested and we can say that it is much higher than in division III. Team Israel was dominating throughout the whole game with stronger skating and better puck control. Team Luxembourg tried to win the zone with a simple puck dumping game but it wasn’t enough today. Especially when Israel’s power play was so efficient. They scored 5 of theirs goals with a man advantage.
In the first period Israel scored 4 goals and made Lions’ work even harder. In the end of the period Mirko Mosr had a breakaway but he couldn’t score despite the shot to the low backhand side not being too bad. Anyway, that gave some boost to Mirko and the whole team. A few minutes later Mosr was the playmaker of a power play and he was looking for players in front of the net. He passed the puck there and in the end the puck found its way into the net without anyone touching it.
In the second and third period, Israel kept controlling and scored two goals in both periods. Team Luxembourg tried to get its own chances and in the end, they managed 14 shots on goal, including Francois Schons breakaway. But when at the same time Israel shot 45 times there was no doubt who was the better team today.
The tournament of Lions doesn’t get any easier as tomorrow they will meet the tournament host Spain at 8pm and on Tuesday New Zealand who beat Mexico 5-1 earlier today. Both of the teams are favourites in the tournament. Luxembourg’s main opponents will be Mexico and North Korea who they will meet in the last two games.
So Luxembourg has two games time to prepare their game plan and keep the positive spirit so that they are ready to challenge those two main opponents. But of course, you never know, everything can happen in hockey.

Nous avons eu un petit aperçu du niveau de la division 2b et on peut d’ores et déjà dire qu'il est beaucoup plus élevé que celui de la division III. L'équipe d'Israël a dominé tout le match à la fois par un patinage plus costaud et un bien meilleur contrôle de la rondelle. L'équipe du Luxembourg a réussi à occuper la zone avec un jeu simple et à terre, mais ce n'était pas suffisant aujourd'hui. Surtout car Israël a été très efficace en avantage numérique. Ils ont en effet marqué 5 de leurs buts en surnombre.
En première période, Israël a marqué 4 buts et a rendu la tâche des Lions encore plus difficile. En fin de 1er tiers-temps, Mirko Mosr a profité d’une échappée, mais échouait malgré un beau tir en revers rasant. Cette action a néanmoins transfigurée Mirko et l’équipe. Quelques minutes plus tard, en surnombre numérique, Mosr cherchait des joueurs du filet et sur un tir anodin, la rondelle se retrouvait dans le filet sans que personne ne l'ait touchée.
En deuxième et troisième période, Israël a continué à contrôler et a marqué deux buts. L'équipe du Luxembourg a procédé à ses propres changements, réussissant 14 tirs au but, notamment sur une belle échappée de François Schons. Mais dans le même temps, Israël a tiré 45 fois, de sorte qu'il n'y a pas eu beaucoup de doute quant à savoir qui était la meilleure équipe aujourd'hui.
La suite du tournoi des Lions ne sera pas plus facile car demain, ils rencontreront l'Espagne, hôte du tournoi, à 20 heures, et mardi, la Nouvelle-Zélande, qui a battu le Mexique 5-1 plutôt ce samedi. Ces deux équipes sont favorites dans le tournoi. Les principaux adversaires du Luxembourg dans la course au maintien seront le Mexique et la Corée du Nord, qu’ils affronteront lors des deux derniers matches.
Le Luxembourg dispose donc de deux matches pour préparer son plan de jeu tout en gardant un esprit positif afin d'être prêt à affronter ces deux adversaires. Mais bien sûr, on ne sait jamais ; tout peut arriver au hockey.
