In 2008, Luxembourg was host to the Division III World Championships of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF). The tournament was held at the Patinoire Kockelscheuer and broke spectator records for ice hockey games in Luxembourg. After playing all it’s games in a sold out arena, the Luxembourgish national team gave the spectators very close and exciting games. In the end, the promotion to division II was missed by a hair and the team finished on the third place.

In 2010, after the Greek Ice Hockey Federation had to cancel the organization of the World Championships that were supposed to be held in Athens during the same year, the FLHG stepped in and organized the 2010 World Championship as well, writing history in Luxembourgish Ice Hockey with another success story. After giving the Luxembourgish Ice Hockey fans high class entertainment, the team ended up once again on the 3rd place.
