You may be wondering why Tornado Luxembourg is not in action this weekend.

Every year, the French Ice Hockey Federation (FFHG) organizes the Coupe de France Final during the same period, at the iconic Accor Arena in Paris-Bercy. This event represents the climax of one of the most important competitions in French ice hockey.
For an entire weekend, the Accor Arena becomes the center of attention for the sport, hosting celebrations, fan activities, and major media coverage. This Sunday, February 1st at 15:00, the final will feature a classic matchup between the defending champions, the Brûleurs de Loups (Grenoble), and the Dragons de Rouen — a true highlight of the French hockey calendar, broadcast live on HockeyFrance.tv.

So, What’s the Connection?
In the original schedule published by the FFHG, Tornado was supposed to face Les Français Volants de Paris on Saturday, January 31st, at the Paris-Bercy ice rink.
However, this rink is located right next to the Accor Arena and is also fully mobilized for the Coupe de France Final weekend. As a result, it was unavailable for regular league games.
For this reason, the match against Les Français Volants could not take place as planned and was rescheduled to Sunday 14 December. That weekend saw Tornado play back-to-back games, with a win against Reims (6–5) followed by a narrow overtime loss against Paris (4–3).
This explains why our schedule is unusually quiet this weekend.

Tornado and the Coupe de France
Tornado Luxembourg has only recently entered the Coupe de France. After earning promotion to Division 2 at the end of the 2023/24 season, the club became eligible to participate in the competition, which is mandatory for D2 teams.
Before that, when it was playing in Division 3, Tornado had not been included in the competition, as it was not mandatory for a D3 club.
Our first appearance came in September 2024, where we were eliminated in the opening round by the Renards de Roanne. Earlier this season, we then faced the Cougars of Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon in another unforgettable chapter of our journey.
Many supporters will remember that weekend: a remarkable human and sporting experience, even if the sporting outcome was disappointing.

A Rare Weekend of Rest — Before the Final Push
This weekend therefore represents a rare and valuable break for our players, even as many of our direct competitors in the playoff race remain in action.
It is an opportunity for Tornado to recover, recharge, and prepare for the decisive weeks ahead.
